Future Birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise
According to the official Star Trek biography of Captain James T. Kirk,
he will be born in a small town in Iowa on March 22, 2233. An enterprising fan
of the TV show decided that Riverside should have the honor of his birth (which
the official Star Trek web site now recognizes). So now
there is a concrete blob behind a former barber shop that marks the spot where
Kirk will be born in a little over 200 years. A scale model of the USS Riverside
sits in the town park and Trekkies come every year to celebrate Kirk's birthday.

World's Largest Strawberry
The 15-ft. tall strawberry sculpture is located on a post in front of
City Hall. Made of fiberglass, it was designed by a local ad agency to help
publicize the town's wild strawberries.
